This year, the month of May in Delhi is feeling much cooler than usual, despite being known for its scorching heat and bright sun. Even in April, the weather was quite comfortable. There was only one day, April 26, 2024, when the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius. Since then, the temperature has dropped, staying below normal for the past five days. There has been a drop of about 5 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature. Today, May 3, also started with mild weather.

The weather department predicts that today’s temperature (May 3) could reach 38 degrees Celsius, which is 3 degrees higher than yesterday. The sky is expected to remain clear today, which could lead to a rise in temperature. Strong surface winds are also expected today. However, there could be a gradual increase in temperature in the coming days, with Friday’s maximum temperature possibly reaching 38 degrees Celsius.

There is a possibility of light rain over the weekend, but there could also be a significant increase in temperature. The maximum temperature in Delhi could reach 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday. It seems like the summer heat is about to intensify in Delhi. By May 8, Delhi’s temperature could exceed 40 degrees. However, there is currently no forecast of strong winds or rain in Delhi after the weekend.

According to Skymet, a weather forecasting agency, the temperature dropped to 33.7 degrees Celsius on May 1, which was 5 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature also dropped below 20 degrees Celsius on May 2 in the morning. This year, the start of May has been as cool as last year. On May 1, 2023, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26.1 degrees Celsius, which was 12 degrees Celsius below normal.

Delhi is all set to welcome Mohalla Buses on its roads in the next two weeks. Chief Minister Atishi shared the update and said these buses will help solve the city’s last-mile connectivity issues.
Trial and Facility Check

CM Atishi recently visited the Kushak Nala Depot to inspect the electric low-floor Mohalla Buses. She mentioned that trials have been successfully conducted on two routes. These buses are specially designed to operate in crowded areas where larger buses cannot reach.
Modern Features

The 9-meter-long buses come equipped with modern features and can run up to 200 kilometers on just an hour’s charge. Atishi stated that 150 buses will begin operating soon, with plans to expand the fleet to 2,140 buses by 2025. The goal is to connect every colony in Delhi through these buses.
Improved Last-Mile Connectivity

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Atishi wrote, “Mohalla Buses will be a game changer for last-mile connectivity in Delhi. Over the past 10 years, Delhi has built a world-class public transport system, and we’ll keep working to make it even better.”
A New Chapter in Delhi’s Transport

Delhi Government Plans New System to Track Projects and Spending in Real-Time

Published

on

The Delhi government is working on a new system that will help its finance department monitor projects, spending, and revenue collection in real time. Called the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), the software aims to make tracking budgets, expenses, and project progress faster and simpler.

Right now, different departments have this information, but it’s scattered. “If the finance department needs details about spending or budgets, they have to collect it manually, which takes time. This new system will make all the data digital and easy to access,” said a senior official.

How It Will Help

The system will let the government quickly check how much money has been spent on a project or whether more funds are needed. It will also track money collected through GST, excise duty, VAT, and license fees.

“If we collect less revenue than expected, the system will let us know right away. This way, we can take steps to fix the issue on time,” the official added.

One key benefit is that the system will help decide if a request for funds is really needed, which could prevent unnecessary spending and control rising costs.
Learning from Other States

Delhi’s finance department has already visited Rajasthan to see how a similar system works there. “We plan to look at systems in other states too so we can learn and improve our own setup,” the official said.

What’s Next?

The IFMS will also include tracking for salaries and General Provident Fund payments. The finance department has been put in charge of developing and implementing the system.

The project is currently in the tendering stage. A consultant has been hired to create the tender documents, which will be ready in about a month. Officials expect the entire system to be up and running in about three months after that.

The government recently held a workshop to introduce the idea to stakeholders. Once in place, this new system is expected to make financial management in Delhi smoother, faster, and more transparent.

Don’t Pay Your Water Bills; We Will Waive Them in 2025,’ Kejriwal Tells Delhi Residents.

Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, has announced that if re-elected, his government will waive all outstanding water bills in 2025. Speaking to residents at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar on Saturday, he encouraged Delhiites to hold off on paying their water bills, claiming that the current bills issued are inaccurate.

Kejriwal shared, “I am a mechanical engineer by training and started my career at Tata. I don’t do typical politics – I focus on actual work. In the past, I’ve waived electricity and water bills, which led to my arrest. I’ll waive these water bills again once we’re back in office. Trust me on this – I’ve done it before and will do it again.”

Delhi’s Services Stand Strong, Says Kejriwal

Highlighting the improvements his government has made, Kejriwal mentioned that thanks to his leadership, Delhi now enjoys 24/7 electricity, unlike many other states. He noted, “I’m an IIT graduate, and under my leadership, Delhi doesn’t experience power cuts anymore. Electing educated leaders makes a difference. We’ve done more for unorganized colonies than any other government.”

Kejriwal also pointed out that people from neighboring states, like Uttar Pradesh, often come to Delhi for medical treatment, despite the availability of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in UP.

“Vote for Those Who Serve You,” Urges Kejriwal

Kejriwal urged voters to support leaders who genuinely work for them. He questioned what the central government has contributed to Delhi, inviting people to compare the efforts of AAP with those of the central administration. “In the upcoming elections, vote for those who have consistently worked for you,” he stated, adding that AAP is also working on improving the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
