Speeding Car Hits Delivery Agent in West Delhi, Rider Dies on Spot.
A 25-year-old delivery worker lost his life in the early hours of Saturday after a fast car hit his electric scooter in West Delhi.
Police said the crash happened around 3 am near the Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh Road, towards Rajouri Garden. The victim, Hem Shankar, was working at that time and was out for a delivery.
He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors said he had already died.
A PCR call about the accident reached Tilak Nagar Police Station at about 3:26 am. People at the spot said a Hyundai Verna moving at very high speed hit the scooter from behind.
The driver, Mohit Kumar, who lives in Najafgarh and works as an MCD contractor, has been arrested. Police have filed a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The car has also been taken into custody.
Friends and co-workers of Hem Shankar asked for strict action. One of them said he was out to deliver an order when the car hit him. Another said they want justice for their friend.
A worker at a nearby petrol pump said he heard a loud sound and saw the car moving at very high speed. He said such accidents will keep happening if people drive after drinking.
Police said the probe is still going on.
This comes days after another deadly road crash near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South, where a man on a bike died after a car, said to be driven by a minor without a licence, hit him.
