Saaho director Sujeeth ends silence on criticism of film: ‘I am being treated as if I committed a crime’

Director Sujeeth cannot understand why he is being targeted for the critical failure of his film, Saaho. The director has moved in with his mother, who is taking care of him as he recovers from dengue and public attacks.

He told Deccan Chronicle in an interview, “I made the film that Prabhas sir, my producers, and I believed in. The audiences came in large numbers to watch it, but still, I am being treated as harshly as if I have committed a crime.”

Saaho, starring Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor, and made on a budget of around Rs 350 crore, has made around Rs 400 crore at the box office, with over Rs 100 crore coming from its Hindi release. It was earlier reported that the film would need to make over Rs 600 crore worldwide to break even.

The 28-year-old filmmaker continued, “I don’t know why all these reports targeting me are being published. I last gave interviews one day after the release of Saaho. Even when I say ‘no comments’, it is turned into an interview. And those quotes are now being used against me.”

Asked about an alleged statement he made where he claimed fans in Bihar want to erect a temple in his honour, he countered, “Please show me where I’ve said this. I never said this. One guy who has nothing to do with the film made this statement on YouTube. I would never make these kinds of statements. I know how ridiculous it sounds.”

He said that he isn’t one to speak pompously. “My mother would kill me if I became pompous,” he said. “They build temples for people like Rajinikanth sir and Mammootty sir. I can only be a devotee at the temple of great actors and great cinema. I am not into bragging. I am just staying away from the media and public appearances because of all the negativity being thrown at the movie. Love or hate the film. But why target me?”

He said that while he should be celebrating the film’s success, he has been stuck in bed. “Fortunately for me,” he added, “Prabhas sir and the producers are supporting me. That’s the only good thing happening in my life right now. Seeing all the criticism, I decided to keep quiet and still, all these negative things are being said about me.”

Saaho has received harsh criticism for its thin script and over-the-top plot. It was touted as one of the biggest action films of India. Sujeeth on social media had even urged fans to watch the film a second time, and had thanked them for their support.

Nach Baliye 9: Shantanu Maheshwari claims judges are unfair, Raveena Tandon confronts him

Published

on

Nach Baliye 9 is increasingly becoming controversial by the day. Just a day after reports of Raveena and Urvashi Dholakia getting into an argument surfaced, another fight involving the judges has come to light.

As per sources from the show, TV actor and contestant Shantanu Maheshwari recently complained to the creative team that the judges are biased towards a few contestants. Little did he know that he would be confronted by judges Raveena and Ahmed Khan.

The source told Hindustan Times, “Shantanu went and complained to the creative team saying that he’s not happy with Raveena and Ahmed’s judgments. When the judges got to know about the same, they confronted him. ‘Do you think are we not doing our jobs properly?’, they asked.

“The judges further told him that instead of going and talking to the creative team, he should have approached them about the same. Shantanu was quiet after that, but he cried backstage,” the source added.

Talking about coming to Nach Baliye with his girlfriend Nityaami Shirke, Shantanu had earlier told Hindustan Times, “The show is not just about dancing, it’s about Nach Baliye so you are not supposed to take a lot of pressure because the more pressure you take, you are not able to celebrate dance. When you enjoy dance, you celebrate it and the people who are watching feel the energy and enjoy the performance. So I am trying to make her understand this so as not to let pressure get to her. She loves dancing and I am trying to make sure that she is enjoying what she is doing.”

Earlier, Raveena caught host Maniesh Paul making faces as she spoke and was infuriated, assuming that he was reacting to her. Maniesh was actually reacting to the directions he received from the makers via his ear piece. A source had told Hindustan Times, “He made a face when Raveena was right in front of him and she assumed he made that face for her. This infuriated Raveena and she said ‘Can’t do this anymore’ before storming to her vanity van.” The show shooting was stalled for an hour before the production team convinced both the actors to get back.

Produced by Salman Khan, Nach Baliye is Raveena’s third TV show as a judge. She has earlier judged Sabse Bada Kalakar and The Drama Company.

Sonam Kapoor’s fashion advice to Deepika Padukone: ‘She should dress to show off her amazing body’

Published

on

Actor Sonam Kapoor has said that Deepika Padukone should dress to show off her ‘amazing body’. In a recent interview, Sonam spoke about Deepika, whom she has criticised for her fashion choices in the past.

In a rapid fire round with Bollywood Hungama, Sonam, who was promoting her upcoming film The Zoya Factor, said, “I think she has an amazing body. So she should like dress to show her body.”

In the past, Sonam during an appearance on Koffee with Karan had advised Deepika to “Create your own style.” While the two actors had appeared together in a previous season of the celebrity chat show, Sonam in a later appearance with dad Anil Kapoor compared Deepika’s style to that of Katrina, whom she praised. She said, “Katrina is herself. She does not try to fit into a mould, which I respect a lot. She is not trying to be the fashion icon of the century. Even if Katrina wears jeans and a T-shirt and has her hair in ponytail… I’d rather have that than someone who is like ‘I want to be on the cover of Vogue every three months’”.

Calling Deepika a ‘good girl gone bad’, Sonam had said that the one thing Deepika has that she doesn’t is ‘an over enthusiastic PR team’.

Sonam has always been perceived as a fashion icon, to the point that her Aisha co-star Abhay Deol had once complained that it got in the way of the film.

The Zoya Factor is based on a novel by Anuja Chauhan and also stars Dulquer Salmaan. The film is slated for release on September 20.
