The Delhi government is turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to plan routes for Mohalla buses. According to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, using AI and big data in public transport will transform the city. Assistant Traffic Inspectors (ATIs) are also helping to finalize the routes.

In partnership with IIT-Delhi, the government is using big data and AI to identify key areas and design bus routes. They’ve also set up a team of 32 ATIs, divided into four zones, to pinpoint routes and evaluate the operation of the 9-meter Mohalla buses. These teams will work on the ground, addressing practical challenges and collecting public feedback on new routes.

Gahlot emphasized that AI and big data will help identify under-served areas with high foot traffic, making the Mohalla bus network more connected and sustainable.
