At Miss World 2018 finale on Saturday, Manushi Chhillar stepped out wearing a glamorous, wedding-worthy Sabyasachi lehenga. You’d love to dazzle at your best friend’s wedding in this stunning design.

Manushi Chhillar surprised us when she attended the Miss World 2018 crowning ceremony in Sanya, China on Saturday wearing a black lehenga by Sabyasachi that was covered in sequins. Glam, showstopping, and glittering, Manushi’s lehenga was the perfect choice for the fashion-forward former Miss World to make a statement and turn heads as she crowned Vanessa Ponce de León as the new Miss World. All eyes were on Vanessa as she made history by becoming the first woman from Mexico to win the crown, but that didn’t mean Manushi didn’t deserve to shine a little too, right?

Emphasising Sabyasachi’s signature sophisticated meets sexy look, this Manushi’s lehenga blends modern and vintage for a gleaming contemporary feel juxtaposed with classic silhouettes. Trust us, it would do all the talking. There’s no need to dramatize your hair or make-up; keeping them simple will let your stunning lehenga shine brighter. Even Manushi simply accessorized her look with elegant chandelier earrings from Sabyasachi, and glowed thanks to her flawless skin, perfectly groomed brows, a nude, creamy pout and super-long eyelashes.

Nawazuddin Siddqui: ‘You take an issue, add five songs and call it content driven, even I have started doing that’

Published

on

Content may be the king now, but for Nawazuddin Siddiqui even films on social issues tend to be as formulaic as mainstream Bollywood movies. Calling the current trend of socially-relevant movies a “propaganda”, the critically-acclaimed actor said many such films generally centre around an issue, but are peppered with the usual tropes.

“They are propaganda films, where you pick up an issue make it like a national crisis, it is not cinema. I don’t think so it is cinema. Whether I believe in it or not is another thing. “People call it content (cinema) but the recipe is same like that of hit Bollywood commercial film, which is five songs, dance, item number. So how can one call them content driven? “ Nawazuddin said.

The actor, however, is not averse to signing such films as “that is what is working now”. “Like you take an issue, add five songs and call it content driven, even I have started doing that,” he added. Nawazuddin became an overnight star with Gangs of Wasseypur series and followed it up with performance-oriented films like The Lunchbox, Badlapur, Raman Raghav 2.0, Haraamkhor and at the same time did an array of commercial potboilers like Kick, Raees, Mom, Bajrangi Bhaijaan among others.

The actor believes to keep getting work it is essential for an artiste to have a commercial standing in the film industry. “It is necessary for an actor to have a commercial standing as then only a film is made, the film runs because of that. The film runs on their shoulder so it is necessary. I am doing a lot of commercial films today and that is because I have a market value. The distributors know it very well, they know the market value of an actor, they know why a film is a hit or flop.”

Asked about the perception about independent films not making commercial gains, Nawazuddin said the thinking needs to change. “Today small films are not flop, as they have alternate platforms like digital. The disaster happens when a big budget film fails, the hero of that film falls down. We don’t. While our films, after releasing in theatres when it goes on OTT it recovers the money easily.”

The actor’s latest film Motichoor Chaknachoor, a romantic-comedy about a 36-year-old man trying to find a wife released on Friday. The film also features Athiya Shetty.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker becomes first R-rated film to cross $1 billion worldwide

Published

on

Comic book movie Joker has crossed $1 billion (Rs 71635 million) in global ticket sales on Friday. It is now the first R-rated Hollywood movie ever to hit the milestone.

A Forbes report said the ‘$62.5 million-budgeted DC Films movie crossed the $1 billion mark in raw global grosses’. It further said Joker is also the biggest grossing movie ever (in raw unadjusted grosses) to never play in China.

Joker, a dark origin story from Warner Bros. about Batman’s arch nemesis, had sold $999.1 billion as of Thursday despite not having been screened in China, which is projected to become the world’s largest movie market next year.

Joaquin Phoenix in a still from Joker.

As per Hollywood Reporter, Joker is the fourth DC title to cross $1 billion, after Aquaman ($1.15 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.005 billion), without any adjustments for inflation.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix as a mentally-ill loner who finds fame through a random act of violence, the movie earned warm reviews as it opened in early October but stoked controversy in the United States over fears it would encourage violence.

Box office analyst Gitesh Pandya earlier said Joker would top the $1 billion level on Friday. “Absolutely jaw-dropping achievement for an R-rated film with a moderate budget and no China release,” Pandya, founder and editor of Box Office Guru, wrote on Twitter.

Its nearest R-rated rivals are 2018 movie Deadpool 2 ($785 million) and 2016’s Deadpool ($783 million), both from Disney, starring Ryan Reynolds as a foul-mouthed superhero. Thanks to a modest production budget estimated at about $60 million, Joker is also the most profitable comic book movie ever, according to Forbes.com, due largely to the film’s focus on character rather than special effects and action scenes.

Joker is now the 7th biggest Hollywood movie at the 2019 box office, behind action-packed blockbuster Avengers: Endgame at $2.8 billion and family movie The Lion King at $1.6 billion, both from Walt Disney.

The movie is expected to land nominations in the upcoming Hollywood awards season and has inspired fans to visit the spot in New York’s Bronx district where Phoenix’s character transforms into the Joker, his face painted like a clown and with green hair, and dances triumphantly down a set of steep steps.
