‘Kedarnath trip was to meet my inner self and not for politics’: PM Modi in 1st Mann Ki Baat after polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to controversies over his Kedarnath trip and last Mann ki baat address apart from reminding his listeners of the importance of upholding democracy that was trampled during Emergency, reading books and water conservation among others.

He started with a clarification on his trip to Kedarnath shrine during the polls. He said it was not a political trip but an opportunity for him to meet himself.

“Most people saw political meaning in it, but for me, it was an opportunity to meet my inner self. In one way it helped me fill the void left by Mann ki baat in the interim,” PM said

He also rejected allegations that he had used last Mann ki Baat in February — last one before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls– to make a poll pitch.

“People had even given political meaning to my last “Mann ki Baat,” when I promised to see you on the programme after the polls. Critics called it ‘over confidence’ but it was your confidence that has aided my return. I couldn’t have come back on my own unless you invited me,” he said.

PM chose to talk about the Emergency in 1977 and how fundamental rights were trampled during this period to emphasise the importance of polls in upholding democracy. “Every citizen during the Emergency felt like he had lost something,” he said.

“Democracy is about respecting every single voter,” he said, recounting how electoral officers had to travel for two days to set up a polling booth for a single woman in a remote Himachal village.

4 arrested for sexual assault of spa employee

Delhi Police captured four individuals after a worker of a spa center in Delhi’s Pitampura claimed she was molested and sexually exploited by its manager and a client.

A 22-year-old woman complained of rape in a spa center at Delhi’s Pitampura on Thursday.

Authorities from Maurya Enclave police station hurried to the spot and started the examination.

“On August 4, a PCR call was gotten at PS Maurya Enclave in regards to rape with a lady at a Spa Center, Pitampura Delhi. The police promptly arrived at the spot (the ocean spa center) where a victim aged 22 years along with her husband were present external the spa center and complained in regards to rape on her by the manager of the spa center and client,” said police.

She was sent to the hospital for her clinical assessment. A counselor from DCW visited her.

“She expressed that on June 30 she joined the spa on August 4 at around 6 p.m. one client came there along with the manager Rahul and requested sexual favors. Rahul offered her a soft drink, after drinking it she felt tipsy and both raped her,” said police.

A case under Sections 354A/328/376 D of IPC was registered and both the accused persons were arrested.
