Karan Johar on drug party accusation: ‘Vicky Kaushal was recovering from dengue, my mother was sitting with us’

Published

on

Weeks after a politician accused Karan Johar of hosting a drug-fuelled party that was attended by Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, among other Bollywood personalities, the filmmaker has dismissed the conspiracy theory as “baseless”.

SAD MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa had claimed that a video shared by Karan from the party was a proof that drugs were used there. He had even requested the police to take cognizance; none of the celebrities have reacted to claims till now.

Talking to journalist Rajeev Masand, Karan asked if he would have shared a video if drugs were indeed used. “There were achieving members of the industry who were having an easy night out after a hard week of work, having a good time. I took that video with all the earnestness… would I be putting out that video if there was anything happening at all, I am not stupid,” he said in the interview.

Discussing how the reflection of a light near Vicky Kaushal was misconstrued as proof, he added, “Apparently you are not allowed to scratch your nose. Apparently, you are not allowed to put your phone in your back pocket. Apparently, a shadow of light is perceived to be some kind of powder.”

He went on to explain that Vicky was actually recovering from dengue and drinking hot water with lemon. Karan said that it was just a party where friends letting their hair down over some wine. “My mother, 5 minutes before this video, was sitting with us. It was that kind of a family, happy, social gathering, where friends were sitting and having a good time and we were listening to some music, having some good food and having good conversational energy there. There was nothing else going on,” he said.

While he accepted that he wondered whether he should react to the accusations, he eventually decided not to. “I don’t react very well to these baseless accusations because that’s what they were, baseless,” he said, while accepting that he will take a more ruthless course next time, “I told them also… I am not taking this very kindly, the next time where baseless accusations, I will take the legal route. You cannot mar our solid reputations, our sincere reputations our committed reputations just because you are presuming something. You cannot put out a baseless accusation that has no base, no fact, no truth, no reality and try and mar us and our reputations, it’s ridiculous.”

Nach Baliye 9: Shantanu Maheshwari claims judges are unfair, Raveena Tandon confronts him

Published

on

Nach Baliye 9 is increasingly becoming controversial by the day. Just a day after reports of Raveena and Urvashi Dholakia getting into an argument surfaced, another fight involving the judges has come to light.

As per sources from the show, TV actor and contestant Shantanu Maheshwari recently complained to the creative team that the judges are biased towards a few contestants. Little did he know that he would be confronted by judges Raveena and Ahmed Khan.

The source told Hindustan Times, “Shantanu went and complained to the creative team saying that he’s not happy with Raveena and Ahmed’s judgments. When the judges got to know about the same, they confronted him. ‘Do you think are we not doing our jobs properly?’, they asked.

“The judges further told him that instead of going and talking to the creative team, he should have approached them about the same. Shantanu was quiet after that, but he cried backstage,” the source added.

Talking about coming to Nach Baliye with his girlfriend Nityaami Shirke, Shantanu had earlier told Hindustan Times, “The show is not just about dancing, it’s about Nach Baliye so you are not supposed to take a lot of pressure because the more pressure you take, you are not able to celebrate dance. When you enjoy dance, you celebrate it and the people who are watching feel the energy and enjoy the performance. So I am trying to make her understand this so as not to let pressure get to her. She loves dancing and I am trying to make sure that she is enjoying what she is doing.”

Earlier, Raveena caught host Maniesh Paul making faces as she spoke and was infuriated, assuming that he was reacting to her. Maniesh was actually reacting to the directions he received from the makers via his ear piece. A source had told Hindustan Times, “He made a face when Raveena was right in front of him and she assumed he made that face for her. This infuriated Raveena and she said ‘Can’t do this anymore’ before storming to her vanity van.” The show shooting was stalled for an hour before the production team convinced both the actors to get back.

Produced by Salman Khan, Nach Baliye is Raveena’s third TV show as a judge. She has earlier judged Sabse Bada Kalakar and The Drama Company.

Sonam Kapoor’s fashion advice to Deepika Padukone: ‘She should dress to show off her amazing body’

Published

on

Actor Sonam Kapoor has said that Deepika Padukone should dress to show off her ‘amazing body’. In a recent interview, Sonam spoke about Deepika, whom she has criticised for her fashion choices in the past.

In a rapid fire round with Bollywood Hungama, Sonam, who was promoting her upcoming film The Zoya Factor, said, “I think she has an amazing body. So she should like dress to show her body.”

In the past, Sonam during an appearance on Koffee with Karan had advised Deepika to “Create your own style.” While the two actors had appeared together in a previous season of the celebrity chat show, Sonam in a later appearance with dad Anil Kapoor compared Deepika’s style to that of Katrina, whom she praised. She said, “Katrina is herself. She does not try to fit into a mould, which I respect a lot. She is not trying to be the fashion icon of the century. Even if Katrina wears jeans and a T-shirt and has her hair in ponytail… I’d rather have that than someone who is like ‘I want to be on the cover of Vogue every three months’”.

Calling Deepika a ‘good girl gone bad’, Sonam had said that the one thing Deepika has that she doesn’t is ‘an over enthusiastic PR team’.

Sonam has always been perceived as a fashion icon, to the point that her Aisha co-star Abhay Deol had once complained that it got in the way of the film.

The Zoya Factor is based on a novel by Anuja Chauhan and also stars Dulquer Salmaan. The film is slated for release on September 20.
