On Tuesday, the police officials announced that a 30-year-old man, Shahrukh, who works as a painter on a contract basis, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 90-year-old grandmother Raisa at her house in Rohini’s Prem Nagar, Delhi.

When the officers arrived at the scene on Sunday, they found the deceased lying unconscious in her room and collected the evidence. According to DCP (Rohini) Guriqbal Sidhu, no external injuries were visible on the body upon prima facie examination. A senior police officer suggested that there had been a quarrel between the woman’s son, Afroj, and his son, which was interrupted by Raisa, resulting in the grandson hitting her and causing her to collapse.

The body of the woman has been taken to the mortuary of SGM Hospital and a postmortem has been conducted. A case has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code based on Afroj’s statement.
