An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from Krishna Nagar police station was arrested on Tuesday by the Delhi Police’s Vigilance unit after being caught taking a bribe. ASI Pramod Kumar allegedly demanded ?50,000 from a man to settle a financial dispute and was caught accepting part of the amount.

The incident came to light when a man from Rohtak, Haryana, reported to the Vigilance unit that ASI Pramod had summoned him regarding a financial dispute. The complainant claimed that Pramod threatened to arrest him unless he settled the matter in favor of the other party, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Anyesh Roy.

According to DCP Roy, Pramod initially demanded ?2 lakh to resolve the case but later agreed to ?50,000. He then called the complainant to hand over the first installment of ?10,000.

The Vigilance team, led by Inspector Nipun Kumar and assisted by ASI Hemant Kumar, Head Constable Anand Kumar, ASI Rajkumar, and Constable Deepak, set up a trap and arrested Pramod while he was accepting the cash. The team recovered the bribe money from his office desk.

An FIR has been registered against Pramod under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was presented in Rouse Avenue Court, where he was sent to judicial custody.
