Delhi Government Plans New System to Track Projects and Spending in Real-Time

The Delhi government is working on a new system that will help its finance department monitor projects, spending, and revenue collection in real time. Called the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), the software aims to make tracking budgets, expenses, and project progress faster and simpler.

Right now, different departments have this information, but it’s scattered. “If the finance department needs details about spending or budgets, they have to collect it manually, which takes time. This new system will make all the data digital and easy to access,” said a senior official.

How It Will Help

The system will let the government quickly check how much money has been spent on a project or whether more funds are needed. It will also track money collected through GST, excise duty, VAT, and license fees.

“If we collect less revenue than expected, the system will let us know right away. This way, we can take steps to fix the issue on time,” the official added.

One key benefit is that the system will help decide if a request for funds is really needed, which could prevent unnecessary spending and control rising costs.
Learning from Other States

Delhi’s finance department has already visited Rajasthan to see how a similar system works there. “We plan to look at systems in other states too so we can learn and improve our own setup,” the official said.

What’s Next?

The IFMS will also include tracking for salaries and General Provident Fund payments. The finance department has been put in charge of developing and implementing the system.

The project is currently in the tendering stage. A consultant has been hired to create the tender documents, which will be ready in about a month. Officials expect the entire system to be up and running in about three months after that.

The government recently held a workshop to introduce the idea to stakeholders. Once in place, this new system is expected to make financial management in Delhi smoother, faster, and more transparent.
