Delhi experienced light rainfall accompanied by strong winds today, attributed to the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy which made landfall in Gujarat yesterday. The precipitation led to traffic disruptions and waterlogging in various areas of the capital city.

According to the meteorological department, thunderstorms are expected to occur in Delhi later today.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted, “There will be a thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds of 30-40 Km/h in isolated places of South Delhi (Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar, Kalkaji, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Deramandi), as well as in the NCR (Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida).”

The IMD reported that the minimum temperature in Delhi today was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is projected to reach approximately 38 degrees Celsius.

Cyclone Biparjoy, the first cyclonic disturbance in the Arabian Sea this year, exhibited rapid intensification between June 6 and June 7. Within a span of 48 hours, it transformed from a mere cyclonic circulation into a highly severe cyclonic storm, defying earlier predictions. The cyclone has also sustained its strength for a longer-than-usual period, which meteorologists attribute to the unusually warm conditions prevailing in the Arabian Sea.
