Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das has said that he and other party leaders may be arrested before the group’s planned protest on October 10.

The CJP has called for protests in Delhi and other parts of the country over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. A major protest is planned at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

In a post on X, Das claimed that the government may arrest him, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, Ratna Singh and other party members.

He urged supporters to keep the protests going even if the leaders are taken into custody. Das said young people would continue to speak up for their rights and future.

“We have always been ready to face jail or worse,” Das wrote, while calling for a large gathering from October 10.

Dipke also posted about the planned protest on X, writing, “…10 Oct ko poora desh aa raha hai…”

Ranka made a similar claim on Monday. He said he, Dipke and Das had been told that they could be arrested before October 10 under the National Security Act (NSA) or similar laws.

Ranka said the three leaders were ready to go to jail and had no fear of arrest. He said their aim was to work for a better and more accountable India.

CJP law team head Ratna Singh said Das had received the information about the possible arrests from a senior officer of “an agency”.

Protests Held Across Delhi and Mumbai

The claims came as protests against the SIR exercise and CEC Gyanesh Kumar continued in several places.

On October 2, thousands of people gathered in Mumbai and Delhi and called for Kumar to resign. The CJP led the protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where the gathering remained peaceful.

In Delhi, around 550 people were detained as Aam Aadmi Party leaders, Left student groups and civil society members tried to reach Jantar Mantar.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has also held protests in Delhi over the past two days.

Police have detained hundreds of protesters and filed three FIRs after clashes between police and protesters during demonstrations that began on October 2.

October 10 Protest to Be CJP’s Second Big Delhi Stir

The October 10 protest will be the CJP’s second major demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The party had earlier held a protest there in July, when its members staged a sit-in for more than a month. They demanded the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper-leak case.

On July 20, clashes between students and police in Delhi left more than 100 people injured on both sides.

The CJP has now called for a fresh protest on October 10, with its leaders asking supporters to take part even if some of the party’s main members are arrested.
