The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) recently conducted surprise inspections at 62 hospitals and nursing homes in Delhi, out of a total of 1,190 facilities in the city. During these raids, they found significant problems in 40 of the hospitals. Shockingly, four of these hospitals didn’t even have the proper licenses to operate.
The inspections carried out on Friday uncovered a range of issues. Two of the unlicensed hospitals were located in Krishna Nagar and Kondli in East Delhi, and the other two were in Rajouri Garden and Deoli in South Delhi.
These surprise raids were triggered by a tragic fire last month at a baby care center in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, which resulted in the deaths of seven newborns. The fire brought to light serious negligence by the hospital’s management, leading Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to order a comprehensive review of all hospitals in the city.
In the first phase, the ACB made a list of hospitals to inspect. The current raids are part of the second phase of their investigation. The ACB will now prepare a detailed report based on their findings, and action will be taken against the hospitals and nursing homes that violated regulations.
With over 1,190 hospitals and nursing homes in Delhi, these findings highlight the need for stricter oversight to ensure patient safety. The recent raids serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards in healthcare, as the ACB continues its efforts to fight corruption and hold healthcare providers accountable.
