Alia Bhatt on boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor: ‘He gives me a different high

Published

Actor Alia Bhatt and her actor boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor are working together for the first time on Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra and she has called it a magical experience. Talking about the film and Ranbir, Alia said she admires his work ethics.

“I have always loved Ranbir as an actor – he’s just so fabulous on screen, he’s powerful yet so honest and complete. I’m feeling that even while we work together. It’s so nice to just see him be. He really inspires me to be a better version of myself at work. His work ethics are commendable and I’m still learning from him. I’ll continue learning from him. Even with Bachchan sir, who’s so giving and professional as an actor, it’s been amazing. His voice can alone give you goosebumps. The world is relatable. Brahmastra is not going to be a film, it will be an experience,” she said.

Talking further about Ranbir, she said, “I’m actually very glad that the first time he and I are coming together is for a film like this. There was a time when I used to think – ‘When will I get to work with him? What will happen?’ And then this happened. Also, it has been a while since Brahmastra was conceptualised – it was five years ago right after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. That was also the time Ayan and I bonded. It was a very big moment for me when he offered me this part. I wasn’t who I’m today then but he still trusted in me. It was a big deal for me and from that day to now, I have always looked forward to being on that set everyday. Because it’s a new challenge each day and it has given me abandon as an actor. I have always felt that when Ranbir and I come together, it has to be magical and literally, it can’t get more magical than this. I’m saying all this with great hope and not being pompous about it. We’re working very hard towards that.”

Alia and Ranbir confirmed their relationship last year. Ranbir said that he was dating Alia in a May interview to GQ magazine while Alia confirmed it during her appearance on Koffee With Karan with Ranbir’s ex Deepika Padukone. “Ranbir makes me feel different. He gives me a different high. Yes, it’s true that I was always a little wary of baring my private life out there, but with him, there’s a deep sense of comfort. He’s an amazing soul and there’s so much that I get to learn from him everyday, not just as an artiste but also as a human being. I would just say that I’m in a happy space both professionally and personally,” she said.

Brahmastra was expected to release in December this year but was recently postponed to a summer 2020. Alia has several other film in her kitty like Karan Johar’s Takht, SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah and her father Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2. Talking about juggling all these projects, Alia said: “I can definitely do other films in between, but the fact that I’m getting to collaborate on such a big vision makes me happy and excited. I know, for a fact, that it will probably make a huge global impact if it’s received and appreciated. It’s a vision of some other kind, but at the same time, it’s rooted in the Indian sentiment.

“Brahmastra is the most powerful weapon that was used in every battle – the Ramayana and Mahabharata. In our film, there’s a reference to the Indian mythology which is why we launched our first logo in the sky. There’s a reason for it. The film is set in contemporary, modern times but the world is deeply a part of our mythology. You feel the magnitude and the amazingness of what’s possible to get out of our own Indian roots and the universe. There’s Amit ji’s dialogue which says ‘jisme pure brahmand ki shakti bhari hui hai’,” she said.

In a world where we are often disconnected from nature and the creatures that inhabit it, “The Elephant Whisperers” brings us closer to the heart of one of the most intelligent and majestic animals on earth – the elephant. This documentary, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2023, follows the story of Bomman and Belli, an indigenous couple who become the surrogate parents to an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu.

Set in the breathtakingly beautiful Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu, India, the film takes us on a journey through the wilderness, showing us the natural beauty of the location and the life of the tribal people who live in harmony with nature. From the very beginning, we are captivated by the bond that develops between Bomman, Belli, and Raghu.

When Raghu is first found by the couple, he is a fragile, injured infant who is barely clinging to life. Bomman and Belli take on the responsibility of caring for him, nursing him back to health with love, patience, and a deep understanding of his needs. As the weeks go by, Raghu thrives under their care, becoming a healthy and mischievous juvenile who delights into playing with his human parents and exploring the forest around them.

The film captures the incredible intelligence and emotional depth of elephants, showing us how Raghu communicates with Bomman and Belli through a range of sounds and body language. We see how the couple responds to his needs, anticipating his every move and showering him with love and attention. The bond between them is truly heartwarming, and we can’t help but be moved by the way they care for Raghu.

But “The Elephant Whisperers” is more than just a story of a couple and their pet elephant. It is a celebration of the beauty and richness of the natural world, and a reminder of our duty to protect and preserve it. Through stunning cinematography and insightful commentary, the film shows us the interconnectedness of all life and the importance of living in harmony with the world around us.

The film also raises important questions about the conservation of elephants in India and the threats they face from habitat loss, poaching, and human-elephant conflict. It is a call to action for all of us to take responsibility for the welfare of these magnificent creatures and to work towards a future where they can thrive in their natural habitats.

“The Elephant Whisperers” is a film that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
